"The anxious brain is an over-reactive brain with abnormally high amplitudes of all brain wave forms. Neurofeedback training calms and normalizes these violent and excessive waveforms."
~ Dr. Calvin Hargis
The stress of everyday life impacts our bodies and our brains on a daily basis, affecting us in many different ways. Feelings of anxiety may surface as we attempt to react to the over-stimulation we face every day. This anxiety is represented by severe magnitudes of brainwave activity. Neurofeedback is shown to normalize the excessive brainwave activity associated with anxiety.
Anti-depressants are generally proscribed to treat anxiety. While these drugs stimulate the production of serotonin, the “feel good” neurotransmitters, they don’t address the underlying effect of brainwave imbalance caused by the over stimulation of the brain. In fact, prolonged usage of medications result in abnormal brainwave patterns and actual brain damage.
Neurofeedback Therapy allows the brain to normalize brainwave patterns. It's a learning modality specifically designed to retrain those anxiety causing brainwaves patterns. In short, Neurofeedback Therapy is a safe, effective and permanent therapy endorsed by the American Pediatric Association as a Level 1 therapy.
Many parents turn to drugs like Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin or Metadate to treat their child with ADD/ ADHD. All of these drugs are trade names for a drug called Methylphenidate. In addition to its many disturbing and well known side effects a recent study in the Journal of Metabolic Brain Disorders found that Methylphenidate induces lipid and protein damage in the prefrontal cortex of juvenile lab animals! This area is the primary reasoning and processing area of the brain. Since the brain is composed of primarily lipid (fat) and protein, these drugs are producing permanent brain damage in the most important and formative years of brain development!
