The theory of neurofeedback is based on a simple concept - the brain can easily change its own abnormal brainwave patterns with the proper stimulus and training. The method is simple: you watch a movie or cartoon of your choosing as sensors relay brainwave information to the training system. If the brainwaves are normalizing the movie plays smoothly...if not it stops and the therapist sets a level of play that allows for the patient to enjoy the movie without undue frustration. Because your brain wants to see the movie it finds the proper brainwaves to make the movie play. With time and training the brain builds new neural pathways and normalizes itself.
The goal of all neurofeedback is to transform unhealthy, dysregulated brainwave patterns into normal, healthy, organized patterns. By doing this, the brain becomes more stable and is able to operate optimally and efficiently. Neurofeedback is completely noninvasive and is considered completely safe by the Food and Drug Administration. In fact they recognize that neurofeedback has never produced a serious negative side effect since it was first discovered over 60 years ago.
At Warwick Brain and Spine Therapy, neurofeedback therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment and brain mapping. This assessment procedure allows the doctor to determine, in a scientifically objective manner whether a client’s brainwave patterns are different from normal.
